DSUK Social Event at Cowes Corinthian
Yacht Club - Wednesday 8th August 2007
DSUK is pleased to announce that this social gathering event is to be held for friends, families and
supporters to meet the DSUK crew at Cowes Corinthian Yacht Club in Cowes, Isle of Wight from 4.30pm onwards
late on Wednesday 8th August 2007.

The DSUK crew will be competing for the second year in the Sonar race class in the Cowes Week from
Saturday 4th August to Saturday 11th August. The Cowes Corinthian Yacht Club is the home
fleet of Sonars, and is a member of the Combined Cowes Sailing Clubs, which organises the Cowes Week.

Ruth Marrison and her crew competing in the Sonar race for the third year in Skandia
Cowes Week 4th - 11th August 2007
Ruth Marrison, who is deaf, announces that she will be competing in Skandia Cowes Week 2007 for the third
year running along with her crewmembers Jacob Brett, Andy Kerr and her coach Richard Beardsley, all of them
from Oxford Sailing Club.
This time, Ruth has secured a sponsorship from Oxford Hearing Centre, which run as an independent hearing
aid dispensing practice to help people with hearing difficulty to choose a hearing aid or some other
instruments. Her last year sponsorship was National Deaf Children Society, which successfully raised the
profile of its work through Skandia Cowes Week and Le Tournoi Sailing Challenge 2006 subsequently.
She has sailed with Richard in the last two years in Skandia
Cowes Week, and their progress will be followed at
clearerhearinginitiative@blogspot.com. They aim to raise
money for Royal National Institute for the Deaf.

It aims to make this course more accessible by offering a
SSE/BSL
interpreter to assist the teaching and the communication between
the tutor and the participants.

tell her story in struggling to cope with her deafness in some ways by
taking up sailing at her home sailing club, Oxford Sailing Club

See Hear TV on transatlantic home voyage aboard Quest II - 27th January
The See Hear TV will be broadcasted on Saturday 27th January at 1200 on
BBC2 to feature Gerry Hughes returning home on his yacht 'Quest II' from
USA with 2 other deaf crews, Jeff McWhinney and Mark Robertson. Gerry
sailed his yacht in a single handed solo transatlantic OSTAR race from
Plymouth to Newport, USA in 2005 and left his yacht behind only to return
there in July 2006 in order to bring his yacht back home to Troon, Scotland.
